Conveyor belt: description, design, marking

Conveyor belt is a bearing element of the belt conveyor, which can be made of various polymers. This device is capable of transporting products of different types, including bulk products. When choosing this device, it is necessary to understand what kind of products it will be used for.

What is it made of?

The material for belt production depends on the conditions and application of the conveyor. The most common materials are:

  1. polyvinyl chloride;
  2. silicone;
  3. polyolefin, etc.

Special requirements are made for those belts that will be used in the food sector. If the products are oily, the best product to choose is PVC conveyor belt. It has a grease-resistant surface and low cost. It is also easy to clean, safe for humans and durable.

Modern conveyor belts are designed for transportation of various loads in vertical, horizontal and inclined direction. If the inclination of the conveyor is large, a belt with a grooved outer surface or equipped with buckets is usually used.

Design features

When choosing such a device, you should pay attention to the following points:

  1. Product Type.
  2. Interior frame features.
  3. Number of linings.

The most important element is the frame, which consists of gaskets and affects how much load the belt can bear. The frame also determines the flexibility of the product, its susceptibility to chemicals, mechanical loads, weather conditions, etc.

The gasket also plays an important role. Usually, cotton or other synthetic materials are used for gaskets. There can be from 3 to 12 gaskets in a typical tape. This element is protected by covering it with a 3 to 10 mm thick layer of rubber.

It is also important to remember that depending on the manufacturing method and technology, the belt may have special properties, such as the ability to self-clean or repel dirt, resistance to oils and greasy media, the ability to filter the feed composition and so on.

A significant factor is also the width of the belt, which is 2400 mm as standard. But these dimensions do not always allow the belt to be used for non-standard tasks in enterprises, and therefore the belt can be manufactured in other widths – from 1200 mm to 5600 mm.

The thickness and surface texture of the belt should match the angle of travel. If it is a horizontal conveyor structure, you can choose a belt with a thickness of 2 to 5 cm with a polymer protective outer layer. For inclined conveyor belt construction it is recommended to choose sectional products.

The texture of the outer layer can only add thickness to the tape, but its durability and strength is not affected, but is determined by other indicators. Today, these products are made of class A, B and C rubber, depending on the conditions of use, as well as the purpose of the product.

Characteristics

Conveyor belt marking contains information that is applied every 15-20 m along the entire length of the product. The marking contains:

  1. product type;
  2. fabric type;
  3. brand mark;
  4. width of the linings;
  5. thickness of the layer of protective linings;
  6. item number;
  7. date of manufacture.

Ordinary belts are used for cargo handling and can operate at temperatures from minus 45 to plus 65. Products must comply with GOST 20-85 and GSTU 12.00185790.001-99, which must be confirmed by certificates.

This product is divided into tapes according to its intended use:

  1. General Purpose.
  2. Resistant to high temperatures.
  3. Fireproof.
  4. Food.
  5. Resistant to high temperatures.
  6. Chevron.
  7. Oil and gas resistant.

In order to avoid accidents in production facilities, it is recommended to select belts taking into account the operating conditions and the type of load to be conveyed. The nature of the conveyor’s use also determines the need to select a belt of appropriate design.

These devices can be used to move various loads over the required distance, and therefore, in order to ensure the creation of optimal conditions and to fulfill all production requirements, such products must comply with standards and be used depending on their characteristics and design features.

Tape connection

In production facilities, it is important to correctly connect the belts on the conveyor belt, depending on the length of the conveyor belt. When carrying out such activities, it is also important to take into account the possibility of belt expansion under the influence of different temperatures. The main part of the elements is connected by soldering them at the ends, but it is also possible to make joints in a locking way, depending on the conditions of use and load on the conveyor itself.

Since the conveyor belt is used today almost everywhere, regardless of the sphere of production, where it is necessary to solve the problems of transportation of goods over different distances, there are many varieties of belts. Nowadays conveyor belt from well-known manufacturers is also an opportunity to take care of the environment, as well as the health of workers in production conditions.
